Alaskan Town’s Mayor Recovers At Vet’s

September 6, 2013 – The honorary mayor of a small Alaskan town is recovering at a veterinary clinic after being badly injured in a dog fight.

That's right– the mayor is being treated by a veterinarian.

Fifteen years ago the small community of Talkeetna elected Stubbs the cat to be the mayor of their city. Stubbs draws 30 to 40 tourists to the town of Talkeetna, which has no human mayor, every day. He loves when people pick him up and isn't camera shy.

"He's a little pistol. He's got a great personality," said his owner Lauri Stec, manager of Nagley's General Store, where he lives.

Stubbs is being treated for a punctured lung, bruised hips, a deep cut on his side, and a breastbone injury that is so severe it might have to be replaced with a steel plate.

The next few days are very crucial but yesterday he sat up and ate on his own for the first time, which is a good sign.

Over the years Stubbs has also been shot by a BB gun and fallen into a cold fryer at a pub. One of the BBs is still lodged inside of him! "He's a freaking tough boy," said Stec.

He also likes all eyes on him. "It's like Elvis has entered the building [when he visits]," said Geoff Pfeiffer, a waiter at West Rib Pub and Cafe, which is nextdoor to Stec's general store.

The staff at the pub have a special wine glass there just for him that they fill with water and catnip when he visits, which will hopefully be sooner than later.

Get well soon, Stubbs!

First,a cat can be a mayor? Next, who shot a cat with the BB gun?! Last, why would a cat be in a dog fight. That paragraph was so sad!!!!!
