Lola The Six-Clawed Lobster

September 10, 2013 – Lola the lobster's six claws saved herself from getting into some really hot water.

Lola was caught by Richard Figueiredo and Captain Peter Brown on the boat The Rachel Leah, which is one of the five boats on the television show "Lobster Wars." Her right claw is normal but her left claw is actually five small claws arranged like fingers on a hand.

She weighs four pounds and is approximately 10 years old. Aimee Hayden-Roderiques of the Maine State Aquarium said that it is very rare to see deformities in lobster claws, let alone deformities as wacky as this one!

It's not known if Lola has his her crazy claw her whole life, or if it recovered this way after her claw was badly injured or cut off somehow.

Because she is so special she was spared from becoming dinner and now has a happy new home at the Maine State Aquarium in West Boothbay Harbor where she is now on display.
